Job Description

Exchange Engineer Level 5 work depends on an Exchange Engineer joining our team to support Government activities in Washington, D.C., Sterling, V.A., or Annapolis Junction, M.D. As an Exchange Engineer supporting the Government, you will be trusted with engineering solutions for email systems, email retention systems, archival technologies, authentication, innovation, etc.


Level 5:

  • Skills and Task - Exceptionally Complex, Inter-Discipline, Inter-Organizational: Can perform tasks of senior level technicians, specialists, and/or managers not performed at Level 4 due to the size and/or complexity of the tasks.

  • Leadership Management: May work individually or as a key member of a senior leadership team. Oversees and monitors performance across several disciplines, and when required, takes steps to resolve issues.

  • Guidance: Provides experts guidance and direction to Government and Vendor senior level technicians and managers. Directs multiple contractor and subcontractors teams through project completion.


Standard Characteristics:

  • Analyze user’s requirements, concept of operations documents, and high level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications

  • Analyze system requirements and leads design and development activities

  • Guide users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies.

  • Provide technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology

  • Incorporate new plans, designs and systems into ongoing operations.

  • Develop system architecture and system design documentation

  • Guide system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans

  • Interact with the Government regarding Systems Engineering technical considerations and for associated problems, issues or conflicts

  • Responsible for the technical integrity of work performed and deliverables associated with the Systems Engineering area of responsibility

  • Communicate with other program personnel, government overseers, and senior executives


In this role, a typical day may include:

  • Develops solutions to a variety of complex engineering problems of moderate scope and complexity.

  • Designs, deploys, integrates, and maintains on/off premise Exchange Solutions.

  • Updates and maintains Exchange PowerShell Scripts that manage and maintain the production Exchange Environments.

  • Designs and defines system architecture for new or existing computer systems

  • Analyzes customer requirements concept of operations documents and high-level system architectures to develop system requirements specifications

  • Analyzes system requirements and leads design and development activities

  • Performs continual maintenance and provides complex solutions for security, backup, and redundancy problems.

  • Guides users in formulating requirements, advises alternative approaches, and conducts feasibility studies

  • Provides technical leadership for the integration of requirements, design, and technology

  • Incorporates new plans, designs, and systems into ongoing operations

  • Develops system architecture and system design documentation

  • Guides system development and implementation planning through assessment or preparation of system engineering management plans and system integration and test plans

  • Interacts with the program personnel, Government, and senior executives regarding engineering technical considerations and for associated problems, issues, or conflicts


What you'll need:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal management supervision

  • Experience with Exchange Server versions 2007-2019: design, install, configuration, maintenance, performance, tuning, migration, and upgrades to server

  • Knowledge of ATO and Project Management processes and experience in certifying products for use in production networks.

  • Knowledge of Enterprise Vault and the integration process of Enterprise Vault into Exchange Environments

  • PowerShell.


Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma + 14 years

  • Associate's Degree + 12 years

  • Bachelor's Degree + 10 years

  • Master's Degree + 8 years

  • PhD + 6 years


Training and Certifications:

  • IAT Level 2



Security Clearance:

  • Active TS/SCI and the willingness to sit for a polygraph, if needed
