Job Description

Geospatial Analyst II develops  targets and target systems for joint lethal and / or non-lethal engagements. Develops target nominations, creates database records, and databases target  intelligence products. Produces all-source analytic damage estimates and battle damage assessments and assists with combat assessment requirements. Conducts collateral damage estimation, performs target list management, target strategy development, and provides joint target intelligence support  to deliberate and dynamic target engagements. Provides recommendations for target prioritization to achieve commander objectives for plans and operations. Provides database nominations, creates and updates database and uploads TMs into databases.


Job Duties:

  • Extract mission specific feature data in accordance with National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG) data standards including, but not limited to, DoD Instruction 3115.15, “Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT)”; DoD Manual 3305.10, “DoD Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Accreditation and Certification”; DoD Instruction 5000.56, “Programming Geospatial-Intelligence (GEOINT), Geospatial Information and Services (GI&S), and Geodesy Requirements for Developing Systems”; NSG Directive (NSGD) FM 1100, “Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Functional Management”; NSG Directive (NSGD) 3104, “Military Services Geospatial Intelligence (GEOINT) Analysis and Production (A&P) Program Mission Instruction (MI)”; and NSG Manual (NSGM) 3202, “GEOINT Functional Manager Standards Assessment (GFMSA) Program.”

  • Conduct research to identify traditional and non-traditional raster/vector sources for GEOINT analysis and production

  • Using GEOINT data science principles and associated competencies, evaluate discovered data’s structure, content, and attribution to determine suitability for GEOINT analysis and production

  • Observe data management best practice by ensuring raster/vector data are contained in geodatabases wherein features and attributes adhere to a defined schema that meets applicable standards and policies

  • Extract, derive, or synthesize feature/attribute data conforming to applicable National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG) standards, U.S. Marine Corps policies, and accepted best practices

  • Apply spatio-temporal reasoning, GEOINT processing and methodologies, and other associated competencies to perform GEOINT analysis, characterize events, and discover relationships/trends in the following domains: terrain and imagery analysis, littoral analysis, and human geography

  • Perform GEOINT analysis and present results in the form of datasets, cartographic products, and other advanced visualizations (e.g., web mapping/story maps)

  • Apply cartographic principles, and other relevant competencies to produce both hard- and softcopy cartographic products that meet applicable NSG policies and product specifications, Marine Corps standards, and accepted best-practices.


Education and Experience:

  • At least 8 years of experience conducting analysis relevant to the specific labor category with at least a portion of the experience within the last 2 years.

  • Bachelor’s degree in an area related to the labor category from a college or university accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.



Security Clearance:

  • Active TS/SCI and the willingness to sit for a polygraph, if needed
