Job Description
System Engineer Imagery Mid Level:
Level 2:
Skills and Tasks:
Complex -develops new concepts and processes. Analyzes root causes and resolves issues.
Supports more junior level technicians and specialists in their activities.
Can perform all tasks of lower level technicians or specialists.
Individual Work / Teamwork or Leadership / Management:
Works individually, actively participates on integrated teams, and may also lead a task, project or team
Guidance:
Requires guidance and direction from more senior level technicians, specialists, and managers on when dealing with new, uncertain situations.
Provides guidance to lower level technicians and specialists.
The Role:
Using a holistic approach, designs develops, evaluates and modifies end-to-end systems and systems-oriented products through their entire life cycle.
Generates quantifiable requirements based on customer description, system planning and design, and acquisition logistics.
Ensures requirements comply with client requirements and government standards through formal verification methods.
Translates high-level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with other engineering disciplines to develop lower-level detailed implementation requirements.
Establishes and coordinates the development of standards, practices, and procedures as related to overall product development.
Designs interfaces and brings system elements together so they work as a whole.
Assesses performance using evaluation criteria and technical performance measures.
Customer liaison and support for business development activities and to understand and shape requirements.
Participates in system conceptual design and documentation of the design concepts.
Translates high-level product development strategies into system requirement specifications and works with multi-discipline engineering teams to develop lower level detailed requirements.
Participates in design reviews of components (hardware and software) to ensure applicability to the current system and traceability of requirements through compliance verification and validation.
Generates system level requirements verification procedures and customer acceptance test procedures.
Reviews test plans/procedures and ensure they meet the objectives of the contractual requirements and participates in the testing process to validate requirements.
Develop/assess product quality requirements and specifications.
Define product format requirements for new products to meet integration and interoperability requirements of National System for Geospatial-Intelligence (NSG).
Apply image science knowledge/experience to develop test plans and procedures to assess data quality and accuracy.
Identify data needs to adequately perform product assessments to meet test objectives.
Test software functionality and quality. Work with government and commercial vendors to resolve discrepancies.
Apply image science knowledge/experience to quantify the visual quality of imagery products and work with developers to troubleshoot causes of errors
Develop engineering-quality verification tools.
Quantify success criteria for readiness review transitions.
Communicate customer mission and results.
Education & Experience:
5-8 Years with BS/BA, or 3-6 Years with MS/MA, 0-3 Years with Ph.D.
Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in System Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Software Engineering or in a related Engineering
The Candidate:
Experience in multiple remote sensing phenomenologies (for example EO/IR/SAR)
Knowledge of NSG tasking, collection, processing, exploitation, and dissemination (TCPED) image chain
Experience with sensor imaging systems, products, and exploitation processes
Strong understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle to include independent testing and data verification, requirements, and development of the concept of operations.
Strong written and oral communication skills, with emphasis on the briefing, to obtain decisions and solve technical issues and test plans/reports writing
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Willingness to learn, solve problems and perform in a dynamic work environment
Experience working in a DoD or IC operational environment.
